Message from Chef Lauren:

We strongly believe that one of the best ways to stay healthy and boost your immune system is with a nutritious diet.

Research has found that there are a few super foods that work to keep your immune system strong and ready to fight off invaders.

Here’s 5 of our favorite immune-boosting super foods (or as we call them with our kids…Ninja Foods).

1. Vitamin A (Beta Carotene)

This vitamin assists with the health of your intestines and respiratory system. Vitamin A-rich foods include carrots, sweet potato, spinach, broccoli and red bell peppers.

2. Vitamin C

Vitamin C helps stimulate the formation of antibodies. Citrus fruits, strawberries, red bell pepper and kiwi are all rich in vitamin C.

3. Vitamin E

Vitamin E promotes the neutralization of free radicals by working as an antioxidant. Foods full of vitamin E include olives, nuts, seeds and avocados.

4. ZINC

There are many zinc-dependent enzymes in our body and deficiency has been linked with immune dysfunction. Zinc-rich foods include beans, seeds and nuts.

5. Protein

Specific amino acids found in protein are essential for T-cell function, which are cells that protect the body against pathogens.

These nutrients have been shown to help your immune system work most efficiently and effectively. When we write our menus each week, we work to incorporate these 5 super fighters into all of our meals. There has never been a more important time to protect ourselves from pathogens starting from the inside out, with the food we put in our bodies.

Stay healthy and thank you for letting us share our meals with you!
