Name: Adam Massey Lives in: Lafayette, CA Occupation: Dad, Husband, Fierce Athlete and Director of Strategic Technology Partnerships at a small company called Google :) Q: Why did you chose Planted Table? What drew you to the idea of a plant based meal delivery service, specifically Planted Table? A: My dear friend had heard about Planted Table just before the launch, and told my wife about it. I was 40 at that time, and recovering from a recent heart attack which was a total shock and had me highly motivated to change my diet and lifestyle. I was lost, trying to find a way to get my nutrition on track and I was looking for help so the timing could not have been better. Q: What were your personal goals for a healthy lifestyle and how did Planted Table fit into that? A: I desperately wanted to make a full

Hello my fellow plant eaters, Let’s talk about vitamin B-12. It’s a hot topic! B-12 helps us with our cells, brain and nerve functions, and supports the central nervous system. It’s super important. This can impact mood and energy levels and a deficit can cause a lack of energy, confusion, mood swings, a quick and intense response to stress, and more. Have you heard that plant-based eaters might be at risk for getting too little B-12?  Well, here’s the reality. What a lot of people don’t realize is that vitamin B-12 is not only sourced from animal products, but is actually solely bacteria based. It is synthesized by bacteria so it is found in areas of bacterial growth, like dirt and soil. For 1000s of years human beings ingested bits of much needed soil while eating their vegetable roots, but today we wash that

In the work I do, people often tell me that they want to truly feel their best. They also tell me they want to be educated about how various foods affect their body and how to use them to their advantage. Enter one of the most powerful foods on the planet: MICRO GREENS. Sometimes referred to as sprouts (which have a slightly longer grow time), these baby herbs are a nutritional powerhouse. Although they are physically smaller than a mature vegetable green, micro greens contain the highest nutrient levels because their vitamin, mineral, polyphenol and antioxidant content is concentrated! One study found that levels in micro greens were 40 times higher than mature leaves. Most micro green varieties are rich in Potassium, Iron, Zinc, Magnesium and Copper. These minerals are crucial for our health, considering the Standard American Diet is greatly lacking. Soy has been a highly debated topic. Here are some quick points around the pro’s and con’s for you. As a rule of thumb, it needs to be organic. In Japan, one of the healthiest places on earth, soy is a prevalent staple because it is non-GMO. GMO soy kills off good bacteria and could lead to a lot of the diseases we are trying to avoid. The healthiest form of soy is fermented soy, such as natto, miso, and tempeh. These are each rich in probiotics as well as fiber, iron, magnesium, protein, and zinc. They are known as a “powerhouse of nutrition” for their benefits of increasing immunity, treating gastrointestinal conditions, and fighting cancer (1). Non-fermented soy, like soy-milk and tofu, contains phytoestrogens called isoflavones. According to Michael Greger, M.D., soy seems to have both anti-estrogen and pro-estrogenic effects (3).
